Statement

I believe dance is learned through observation and participating in exchanges of cultural experiences. Dance conveys histories and values, and I motivate students to remain curious about the many ways dance is embedded in life. I am committed to a horizontal learning approach in the classroom, where information flows from everyone to ensure students gain applicable skills to carry into their lives. I bring a cultural anthropological perspective into the studio space, encouraging students to engage, question, and explore various movement traditions. By focusing on the movement that exists in ordinary life, it becomes vital to minimize a separation from movement and performance. I create a grounded yet challenging environment where students feel confident to ask questions, deepen their curiosity, and learn with respect for the many cultural identities that shape movement practices.

Driven Groove workshop

This workshop is created for all types of movers who want to enhance their musicality, individual style, and performance in modern and jazz. Through a structured warm-up, across-the-floor progressions, and a short choreographed phrase, dancers will learn how to incorporate fall and recovery and dynamic use of their weight with sharp and expressive energy. Movers will leave with confidence of falling with gravity, moving with direct intention, and a fresh perspective on personal artistry. Socks or jazz shoes are encouraged!
